CFCS Advisory Board

Dr. Dale Preston will serve as the Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board. Other members of the Board will include Dr. Shore,Vice Chairman of the Radiation Effects Research Foundation, Japan; Dr. Fred Mettler, a noted radiologist and a long-term U.S. representative to the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation; Dr. Rebecca Smith-Bindman, a recognized leader in the quality and utilization of radiation imaging field; and Drs. Anthony Miller and John McLaughlin, co-investigators of the original Canadian Fluoroscopy Cohort Study in 1973.  Dr. Zablotska has worked with all members of the Scientific Advisory Board in the past on various radiation studies.

Dale Preston, PhD

Dr. Preston is a recognized leader in the fields of radiation epidemiology and biostatistics.  He has extensive experience in these areas, stemming from over 20 years as the Head of the Departments of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Radiation Effects Research Foundation in Hiroshima, Japan. Dr. Preston is the principal developer of the Epicure risk regression software distributed by his company Hirosoft International, which is widely used on studies of the effects of radiation and other environmental exposures.

Anthony Miller, MD

Dr. Anthony Miller is currently Professor Emeritus at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. Dr. Miller will provide guidance to the investigative team regarding study design and follow-up procedures, treatment records, as well as in-depth review and recommendations during annual meetings of the scientific team with the Scientific Advisory Board in San Francisco.

Roy Shore, PhD, DrPH

Dr. Shore is currently Professor Emeritus of Environmental Medicine in the Department of Environmental Medicine at the NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Shore will provide substantive scientific advice to the investigative team on radiation safety policies and standards and how they could be improved, as well as in-depth review and recommendations during annual meetings of the scientific team with the Scientific Advisory Board in San Francisco.

Fred Mettler, Jr. MD, MPH

Dr. Fred Mettler is currently Professor Emeritus and Clinical Professor at the Department of Radiology at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. Dr. Mettler will provide substantive scientific advice to the investigative team on radiation safety policies and standards and how they could be improved, as well as in-depth review and recommendations during annual meetings of the scientific team with the Scientific Advisory Board in San Francisco.

John McLaughlin, PhD

Chief Science Officer and Senior Scientist, Public Health Ontario. Dr. McLaughlin will provide guidance to the investigative team regarding study design and follow-up procedures, treatment records, as well as in-depth review and recommendations during annual meetings of the scientific team with the Scientific Advisory Board in San Francisco.

Rebecca Smith-Bindman, MD

Rebecca Smith-Bindman, MD, is a Professor in Residence of Radiology, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine. Dr. Smith-Bindman will provide substantive scientific advice to the investigative team on radiation dosimetry for fluoroscopic examinations, as well as in-depth review and recommendations during annual meetings of the scientific team with the Scientific Advisory Board in San Francisco.
